Announcement: Windows 10 Version 1809 consumer editions to receive support until November 10, 2020 #WinTenOld

Hi all,

Many of you may have received a calendar notice that Windows 10 Version 1809 (October 2018 Update/build 17763) is going out of support in May. An hour ago Microsoft announced that this feature update will receive additional servicing until November 10, 2020. The following consumer editions are affected:

  • Windows 10 Home Version 1809
  • Windows 10 Pro Version 1809
  • Windows 10 Pro Education Version 1809
  • Windows 10 Pro for Workstations Version 1809

Version 1809 Enterprise and Education editions will receive cumulative updates until next year.

As a result:

  • May 2020 calendar event on this forum cluster will be canceled.
  • The last cumulative update notice for Version 1809 will be sent on November 2020 instead of next month. This is subject to change.
  • Although members are encouraged to update to Version 1909 (November 2019 Update), if there is a need to use Version 1809 a little longer, feel free to do so but please update before November 2020 end of support date.

While I have no doubt that this announcement is accurate, I would not encourage anyone who still has Version 1809 to remain on Version 1809 at this juncture.

It's perfectly safe to update to 1909, and if you need easy instructions for doing so, see:  Doing a Windows 10 Repair Install or Feature Update Using the Windows 10 ISO file

I'd suspect that any machine that has remained on 1809 up to this point either has a malfunctioning Windows Update or was somehow intentionally tweaked to avoid feature updates, neither of which is a good thing.
