Inserting a signature file into a .pdf

I have some forms, emailed to me, that need to be filled out and signed. they are .pdf's. I have a lovely .jpeg signature file that I insert into word documents when a signature is required. How can I insert the .jpeg into a .pdf???

You migh tneed aira to do this for you to make sure it is on the line where it needs to be. If you cannot do it ask if you can sign at the office or something.

There's the Sign PDFs in Adobe Acrobat Reader help article directly from the maker of said product. Can you outline why that solution is not working for you, and what you tried, so we can further assist you?

I understand what Ann is referring to in regard to MS-Word and MS-Excel files, as I have certain forms when I submit billing that have to be "signed" and I do that by inserting an image of my actual signature where the background has been made transparent.   That being said, these are ancient forms.

Most modern forms that require a signature will allow digital signing, which neither uses nor requires an image scan of an actual signature.

The most recent versions of MS-Word can open PDF files for editing, and if they happen to be old forms where "a real signature" is expected one could edit in MS-Word, insert the signature image, then save the file back that way.

It shouldn't be, but the versions of Word that can open PDF can save as PDF, too.  Your best bet is to try it, show it to someone who can see, and determine if there are issues.  So much can vary depending on when an PDF was created, and with what.

If you've got several you can experiment with then do 'em all.  That way you'll have a much more accurate idea of whether this is a "generally safe" technique to get the result you're looking for.

Trial and error is sometimes the only, and the best, way to come to a legitimate conclusion.

Hello Ann and List,

Pasting a picture in a form is not the same as signing a form. This doesn't prove that the form has been signed by the person submitting it.

I suggest you call the organization receiving your forms? Does it accept the electronic way? Or does it expect you to do it the old school way --- print them out, sign them and send them back?

It actually is for a very great many organizations.   All they care about is whether a signature (or facsimile thereof) appears on copies of a document, as most who handle it never see the original.  They're really "a formality" that is a holdover from another time.

Those who require legally valid signatures electronically will be using electronic signing, much like the IRS does for tax returns filed via cyber-filing.

I just recently went through the signature issue when I had to do a signature card adding my sig to a nonprofit which I now head. I took the bank’s PDF and printed it, filled in the info then scanned it as a PDF again and sent it back to them. I suppose I could have just as easily faxed it to them, but wanted the experience of sending as PDF attachment that I had signed.

 

Not even sure how you would sign a PDF directly on computer anyway.

You are right about your comments that most places accept a copy just as an original as long as the signature is there. I had to sign something for an insurance company recently and the page I was signing said that a copy was counted as legitimate just the same as the original. So they were OK with getting the copy while I kept the original doc here.
