Windows 10 or not. I think the built-in antivirus USB 3.0 support, etc. prvide strong incentives for Windows 7 (or earlier) users to move on to Windows 10. Question still remains though, how responsive and stable is Windows 10 after so many weeks of updates and what not? For me a fast stable system would trump one with bells and whistles any day. Ok, one thing missing which is significant to many blind
users is, in windows 7 and earlier, there is a "log off" of
windows sound, not the "change user" sound which can be used,
but an actual windows log off sound, or maybe it is "closing
windows," sound. They took it out of windows 8 and higher.

It is a nice way, (or was a nice way) to tell when your computer reboots, that "windows log off" sound. I wonder if anyone can figure a way to restore such a thing? The windows logon sound is there, by default, and that sound isn't easy to change, since it is the same for windows 7, 8, 8.1, and 10, but at least in windows 7, the sound for shutting down the computer exists.

Hi, Not that I know of. We may as well ask Microsoft to reinstate this, but some may say it is better to leave it off. Cheers, Joseph Â

You're right; I've noticed that the shutdown sound seems to be nonexistent in Windows 10 and I don't recall finding a setting to bring it back in the Sounds section of Control Panel. Also, I don't see a way of changing the intro sound, similar to what we had
with Win7 and 8. I guess it's just one more subtle way Microsoft is trying to make Windows feel and sound more like using a Mac. <grin>

With the Mac, the initial startup sound has no setting in the UI which allows you to change it. It can be done but it sounds like doing so involves more drama than is worth pursuing and the Mac has no shutdown sound.
