Good Morning:  Another way to look at it is how many doors do you have to open and close as to those doors already being open.  I always looked at the speed of a server service as to how many users are pulling from it at one time.  The more of them, the slower you will receive the service or information you wish to receive.  Another way to look at this is having an electric light hooked to a switch.  Is it in parallel or searies, if in searies it can pull more electricity then in parallel.

I'm sorry, but as an unqualified statement that's very simply incorrect.

There are many situations (one of which was already described, the presence of a multi-WiFi network rich operating environment) that has the potential to have significant impacts on WiFi performance on heavy traffic channels (and older hardware isn't trying to seek out empty channels).  Ethernet never has this issue.

The above being said, I absolutely agree that trying to describe throughput is somewhat an exercise in futility.  I always use the example of either a series of pipes and hoses delivering water, where the fastest flow you will get in the whole collection is determined by the narrowest constriction in that series, or of a bucket brigade where you have individuals who are significantly slower "somewhere in the middle, somewhere" and this is what limits the ultimate number of buckets you get, and at what speed, on the end where the water gets thrown.

I'm constantly trying to explain to my partner that the reason that Zoom, for instance, is slow and flaky is almost never going to be the result of something on his machine, which has way more than enough firepower to handle it all at once.  It's because, somewhere out there in cyberspace, there's a hitch in the gitty-up of the data coming to and going from his computer to the meeting hub and/or participants.  The same is true when the browsing experience in general slows down.  And there are times where the end you're trying to reach from wherever you are happens to be down entirely.  All of these things happen, both singly, and sometimes in combination.

Re: Alt Tab on windows 7

Hi,

If it works with JAWS 2020, I’d put slightly more weight on JAWS 2021 issue. As an alternative to JAWS Key+F10, you can tell your friend to press Windows+T.

Cheers,

Joseph

Any other ideas to get alt tab to work as we are all used to?

Sarah,

I’ve heard the blue switches are noisier but then every time I think I know which color switches to go with or to avoid, I get more and more confused. There are blue, red, orange, yellow, brown and then there are MX Cherry switches. How we average mortals are supposed to figure it all out is beyond me.

In fact, for a long time I heard orange switches were supposed to be the quietest but I don’t see too many KB’s with orange switches. The only series that comes to mind, the KB’s from Redragon in something called the Black Widow Stealth series or something similar. Nice but they are pricey.

The search goes on.

Call your service provider. They will send a signal to the device and reset it. You will have no phone and/or if you have bundled services, you will have none for a couple minutes while this all resets.

Just to clarify, I have not changed any settings since getting this modem from Comcast nearly a year ago. I just need to reset so as to try to correct a problem that once again has crept up when recording live streams. After getting this present modem, the troubles that drove me crazy for around two and a half years was no longer a problem until last Friday evening, and I have had them ever since. I really don't want to have to deal with this vexing problem any longer than necessary.

Now to my question. After the reset, what steps will i have to take to get back into operation? Will this modem, or gateway automatically restore my login and password, so as to let me back on the net, or will I have to manually reenter that login or completely change it.

I really don't want to have to deal with Comcast Tech Support if I don't have too. I'm thinking that it might be easier just to call them up and order a new one, but just have to hope that they don't give me one with the same problem. What a mess.

I sure wish I knew what makes these modems do this. This being when streaming, I lose the signal, and none of my settings to help with reconnecting help at all. I have practically pulled any hair I might hav left over this issue.

up the email in a window that's not easily readable for jaws. It's some kind
of html one. To close it I've to press ctrl F4. Then if I go back into the
inbox I can access the email as before - enter, read with arrows, press
escape to close it.

Has there been a recent change to Outlook, or have I inadvertently changed
the settings?

Brian,

I recently tried updating from 1909 to build 20h2 but had the same problem that I did last summer when trying to update to 2004 – couldn’t access start menu or Action Center, and likely other issues I had not yet found. I’m kind of leery about trying again to update to 20h2 but won’t know if I have this same experience unless I do the update but wonder if there is anything after the update that could fix this problem once and for all? the update itself that I recently tried went smoothly, no problems detected, but something in that update has caused the above problem. Is there anything I can do with the update process to keep the start menu & Action Centers functioning?

Thanks,

BP

It can also depend on your ISP/whatever those people are who provide your Internet. Down here where I live in Missouri, we use Centurylink—not the best as it’s pretty spotty.
