Hi, Is tablet mode on? To check, open Action center, then look at “tablet mode” control. If it is pressed, press Space to turn it off. Another place to look at is Settings (Windows+I)/Personalization/Start. Cheers, Joseph

One can always try, Doing a Windows 10 Repair Install or Feature Update Using the Windows 10 ISO file, or rolling back the Cumulative Update and letting it reapply. I actually find doing a repair install easier, but some don't. Brad,
If you were using the Windows Key and just started typing, the search field really isn't present until you start typing. My guess is that something has changed about when Windows 10 exposes whatever it is that it exposes to the screen reader to get it to announce the search field. You can still hit Windows Key and just start typing immediately. You also have the option of displaying the actual Windows Search button in the taskbar and using it instead to launch your search. If you have focus on the taskbar itself and bring up the context menu you should have the Search option, and when activated it will give you a choice of two items: Hidden and show search icon. [solved] missing start menu search field

As long as I have been using Windows 10, after pressing the Windows-key to open the Start Menu, my focus has been placed in a Search field, and JAWS speaks “Search box, edit text”, or something similar. This Start Menu Search field was present following the Windows 10 Spring 2004 update, but following a recent Windows 10 Cumulative Update, has disappeared.
Does anyone know how to get it back?? - Brad -

While this list is for asking questions about Windows 10 from a blindness perspective I notice that it often tends to branch out with discussions of specific software that runs under Windows 10 but which is not specific to Windows 10. This is not necessarily a criticism. I'm not the moderator and so I have no say s to whether such messages are considered relevant or appropriate. It was for this reason that I started the Office Accessibility list. I found that I had a question about performing a task in Office which wasn't unique to Windows 10 nor was it unique to a specific screen reader. I realized that the Win10 list might not be the best place for me to ask it and, as it wasn't a question unique to JAWS or NVDA I felt that it was time to launch a list specifically for users of Office. I guessed that it would see a good amount of users but I did not expect 200 subscribers in the first week the list was created and so this taught me that a need for such a list existed.

All of this is to say that after responding to a query about Thunderbird on this particular list I then felt a bit hypocritical, wondering if this list was the best place for such a response since one could correctly argue that Thunderbird questions are not at all unique to users of Windows 10. I'll freely admit that I do put a stop to threads on the Office Accessibility list that deal with issues which clearly have nothing to do with Office and I make no apology for doing so. What I'm leading up to is that Mozilla does have an accessibility list for questions regarding its own products. The list is not very active but I think this is because many people simply aren't aware that it exists. A post that I submitted a few weeks ago on that list about some Firefox issues I was seeing with JAWS generated not one but two responses from two Mozilla developers and resulted in my crash logs being submitted in Bugzilla as a new defect that these gentlemen were previously unaware of. Therefore, I encourage all users of Firefox and Thunderbird to consider subscribing to this list to submit your feedback. Mozilla clearly monitors the list, responds to feedback and seems to genuinely care about addressing it. in search of a program to merge very large videos
As photos cannot open at least for me videos more than 3.58 gigs in length, (I get an error about not the right properties) I thought I'd try and find a program that can join my 4 gig videos. I can upload the archive in two parts, but I really don't want to do that. Is there a program I could use to do this then convert of necessary? I tried free make , but I don't want the free make logo, I wanted to speed up the conversion, and for that I have to buy the darned thing, and there are some unlabeled buttons that kind of hinder my progress. I did google but so far all I have found does not work such as a free video joiner that is accessible until you add a video. Then it is not as the list never appears to move vids up or down. By the way I already submitted feedback about this and googling reveals that it was a windows update back in may that broke photos. I have solved the problem and I must say I'm feeling a bit foolish.

First, the issue was screen reader specific. I thought I heard the row and column info speaking in JAWS but I had a bit of an aha moment and I suspected that I knew what the cause of the problem was. I checked and it was not occurring with JAWS, even though I thought that it was. As it turns out disabling NVDA's speaking of row and column headers fixed the problem.
